2020 UIC New Student Convocation

The University of Illinois at Chicago formally invites you to our 2020 UIC New Student Convocation. Convocation is an official ceremony welcoming you, and your family members, into the academic community of the University of Illinois at Chicago. This annual event is a great way for you to kick off your first semester at UIC; connect with fellow classmates, faculty, and staff; and begin your journey as a member of the Flames Family!

Join Chancellor Michael D. Amiridis, current faculty and staff, UIC student leaders, and your fellow new students as we welcome you into the UIC tradition of excellence and the Fall 2020 semester.

All new students who register and attend the event will receive a 2020 New Student Convocation T-shirt. Information will be shared at the event about t-shirt distribution.

UIC New Student Convocation will be hosted virtually this year. Following registration, all new students and family members will receive individual login information via the email provided at registration.

Event Registration

Official invitations are sent to new students' UIC email accounts. These emails contain unique links for each student. Please be sure to use your link to register! Parents and family members are highly encouraged to attend. Parents and family members will need to be included by the student at time of registration. Students, don’t forget to include your family members!

Generic Questions About This Event

1 Can my parents and family members attend New Student Convocation?

o Yes, we encourage all new students to invite their families to join them. Each student can invite up to 5 guests. Parents and family members must be registered by the student at the time of registration. Make sure you register your family members individually so they have access to login from their own personal device!

2 Who is invited to New Student Convocation?

All new first-year and transfer students, as well as their parents and family members

3 How much does it cost?

New Student Convocation is FREE

4 Am I required to attend?

All new students are expected to attend this event

5 I would like to request accessibility information or request ADA accommodations, who should I contact?

This year's event will be virtual and all programming will include closed captioning/sub-titles. Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you require additional accommodations to participate in the event, please indicate your need in your event registration or email orhelp@uic.edu.

6 Where do I register?

All new students will receive an invitation, which is sent to your UIC email address. You can also click on the buttons above to register.

7 I registered, but I never got login information. How long does it take?

Be sure to check your email. Following your registration, you will receive an email from Accelevents with instructions about signing into the event. Be sure to check your spam and junk folders.
You will receive a confirmation once you register, and an email with login instructions prior to the event

8 How do I provide my picture for the Convocation Mosaic?

o All new students are able to submit a photo HERE
o Please note that all photos must be received by 6:00pm (CST) on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

9 How long is the event?

o Pre-Show begins at 2:30pm
o Ceremony begins at 3:00pm
o Additional, optional programming/activities will be available until 6:00pm

10 I’m a parent or family member of a new student, can I attend?

Yes, parents and family members are highly encouraged to attend. Students will need to include family members in their registration. The unique invitation link is contained in the email invitation.
